A Guide to Bathroom Flooring

Your bathroom flooring needs to endure a lot of wear and tear, and it may not always be a wise decision to choose the least expensive option.

Water splashing everywhere, along with steam can cause the wrong type of materials to rot and warp, so it pays to choose the most suitable type of floor for your bathroom. There are a wide variety of suitable flooring materials that can withstand a bathroom environment, and it’s a good idea to take home samples so you can see how different colours and materials will look in your bathroom.

Vinyl Flooring

Vinyl flooring offers a very practical and hard-wearing option and is really easy to keep clean, making it an ideal choice for a family bathroom. Vinyl is available in a huge variety of colours and patterns, this makes it a very flexible option to coordinate with a range of colour schemes. Also a big bonus in winter is that this type of material does not feel cold underfoot, but you need to ensure that it is installed on a flat, even surface.

Ceramic Flooring

Ceramic floor tiles are a very popular choice for a bathroom and come in a wide range of sizes and colours. Ceramic is hard-wearing and resistant to stains, but it does feel cold in winter; installing underfloor heating is a great way to provide a more welcoming feel.

Linoleum Flooring

Linoleum flooring is very easy to clean and does not feel cold underfoot; it offers an all-round practical choice and is good value for money too. There is a great range of modern designs to choose from to suit a variety of bathroom styles.

Stone Flooring

Stone flooring is the perfect option for creating a hotel-spa feel to your bathroom and provides a high-end feel. Stone feels really cold underfoot during winter, again consider underfloor heating to create a warm and inviting bathroom. There are also a variety of different types of stone including granite, slate and limestone. Limestone is great for a compact bathroom as it is light in colour, but it needs to be sealed to prevent any water staining. Granite and slate are darker and have a natural resistance to water.

Mosaic

Mosaic tiles provide a very decorative appearance and there are a fantastic variety of colours available so you can create a look that perfectly suits you. You can also buy fragments of mosaic tile so you can create more unusual designs.
