Designing the perfect bathroom

Creating the perfect bathroom is a task that can take much time and effort, with many different areas to consider. With this Cheapsuites guide we aim to help you plan and bring about your dream bathroom with as little fuss as possible.

Your first considerations should concern the needs of the household; you should think about how much time is going to be spent in the bathroom in order to help form an idea of how the room will be used, will it be solely functional, or have a focus towards more leisurely use?

On this basis you can then build an idea of how your bathroom will look. Your planning process should include questions such as:

  • How many people will be using the bathroom, and how can it be designed suitably to cater for them?
  • How much storage space is required, and what will it be used for?
  • How much light does the room get; will it be used in the morning or the evening? Such questions will have an impact on the colours and lighting that you will want to use.
  • Is the bathroom intended to last, or are you simply looking for a short-term solution? The length of time that you intend to keep the bathroom may affect your decisions on the costs of fixtures or furniture .
  • Fortunately whatever your budget Cheapsuites are here to help

Next you should decide upon your budget and then look to creating a list of the products you would like to include in the bathroom and how they will fit, both in terms of the budget and the dimensions.

You should look at your existing room in detail, and work out how you plan to create your bathroom. Do the walls need to be moved to accommodate alarger bath or Shower Cubicle ? Any ideas you have at this stage should be worked out alongside a qualified plumber and electrician, who will be able to offer guidance on issues such as ventilation, wiring requirements, drainage, etc.

If you are simply looking at giving your current bathroom a facelift, you could look at our off the shelf products and fixtures from our site to use alongside general redecoration. These might include, new taps , an additional shower cubicle , or new shower over your existing bath?

5 Steps to the perfect bathroom:

  • List all the things you want to include in your bathroom, and then work out where the basics (showers, baths, WC) will go. Measure the room to make sure that these will fit alongside any extras, whilst keeping plumbing fixtures and drainage in mind. Please remember it is generally a big job to move the toilet pan to a different position within the room, due to the waste outlet.
  • Discuss any plans for extending or changing the size and shape of the room with a qualified plumber, builder and electrician to make sure that your ideas are possible.
  • Try not to overcrowd your bathroom; remember that there must be room for standing and getting in and out of the bath/shower. Try experimenting with different designs to make sure you utilise the space to best effect. Here at Cheapsuites we have some great space saving ideas such as Quadrant Shower Cubicles ; shower baths etc
  • Take care to plan all lighting fixtures and extras early, to avoid complications later on. Make sure you know where you want to have lights, fans or shaving points from the start.
  • Think about the style or your bathroom. These days there are numerous approaches you can take to bring your bathroom design to life, ranging from traditional designs through to modern and space saving suites.

Choosing your style

The size of your bathroom and the space you have available will have a bearing on the style that you adopt for your bathroom. With these in mind you should also consider the age and style of your property when choosing the style to suit your needs. There are a number of options that you can consider:

Modern

Clean, straight lines are the design features of a modern suite, these are suited to rooms of any size and allow for a sense of space combined with simplicity. Particularly useful in smaller rooms, it may be that you decide to create a more contemporary look, using over sized tiles in crisp modern colours, to complement the pottery and further creating a sense of space. Basin taps for Modern suites tend to be Monobloc style, which fit onto a one tap-hole basin. These taps are very practical and are easy to clean, use and care for. The Monobloc basin taps means there is no need for a basin waste, as it is integrated as a pop up waste into the tap mechanism. If it is a Modern design suite that you are looking for then look at the Cheapsuites Orta, or Como suites as two fine examples of this style.

Traditional

A style that will always retain its elegance, a traditional suite will provide a welcoming bathroom based on the styles of earlier periods. Older period properties will benefit most from fixtures in a Victorian, Edwardian or Georgian style, as it will be in keeping with the rest of the house.

If you are able to accommodate it, a roll top freestanding bath will provide the perfect focus for the bathroom, well in keeping with the traditional style. Make sure that the brassware does not look out of place by opting for chrome plated crosshead taps and showers. Smaller, bold coloured tiles will help to complete Traditional look of your bathroom project.

Freestanding Furniture

Freestanding furniture offers a spacious look combined with modern practicality and fixings. Perfectly suited to more spacious bathrooms, freestanding furniture offers an alternative to the more common fixed furniture styles. Link to solid pine wall unit

Be wary about using too much freestanding furniture in a smaller bathroom, as it can give the room a cluttered feel; perhaps opt instead for a freestanding basin unit with a conventional style WC toilet pan and cistern. These could perhaps be used in conjunction with wall units , or floor standing units for towels and toiletries, making full use of the space available.

Cloakrooms

As more and more people decide to upgrade their existing homes, rather than move home, cloakroom suites are becoming more popular.

The practicality of an extra toilet in the home cannot be overestimated, and people are finding all sorts of innovative solutions to meet their needs. A few examples include: converting the space under the stairs; taking space at the back of an attached garage; converting space in a loft; or even within the area of a porch. These are just some examples of the imaginative uses of space. Please consult a qualified plumber before undertaking these types of building projects, and be aware that in some cases you may require planning permission.

Small areas can feel very enclosed if the walls are fully tiled; why not consider just tiling around the basin, and behind the toilet to create accents of colour, without overpowering the room.

Finishing Touches

Finishing Touches always count and can help pull a design scheme together. Here at Cheapsuites we have a range of bathroom accessories to help complete any project. The toilet roll holder, toothbrush holders etc. are sometimes forgotten in the grand scheme of a bathroom re-fit project. Why not order your accessories at the same time as your Cheapsuites bathroom and enjoy the convenience of having it all delivered to your home at the same time?

Colour, and lighting can be used to create the mood you are aiming for in your bathroom. Whether it is relaxing shades, or a brighter, more modern look you are trying to create. Blinds, tiles, wall paint, shower curtains and flooring can all be used to emphasise a colour and mood.

Be aware, however not to make it too striking if you are planning on moving, as it may deter buyers.

Frequently Asked Questions

How thick is the acrylic that the baths are made from?

All the CheapSuites baths are manufactured from sanitary grade acrylic with a minimum thickness of 4mm. This is the measured thickness before the manufacturing process begins. This acrylic sheet is then carefully sprayed with a covering on reinforced glass fibre to give the bath the rigidity.

The important issues here are the fact that they are made from sanitary grade acrylic; this will not always be the case with some of our competitors. If the bath is not made from sanitary grade acrylic the bath surface will degrade over time due to cleaning chemicals and sunlight. This is NOT the case with CheapSuites baths, which are ALL manufactured using sanitary grade acrylic. The other important point is that fact that CheapSuites baths are covered liberally with reinforced glass fibre and resin, once again some of our competitors may skimp in this area. Please remember that all CheapSuites products are covered by our comprehensive 5-year guarantee, against manufacturing defects.

Are the Showerbaths sturdy?

Yes, all the CheapSuites Showerbaths are supplied with a substantial leg system together with adjustable feet in case your floor is not perfectly flat. Also, please refer to the answer above regarding the glass fibre reinforcing on all CheapSuites baths and the part this plays in giving the bath rigidity. Showerbaths are one of our speciality product areas and many of the on-line testimonials refer to our customer’s delight in the product quality.

In particular please see:

Margaret - North East "I can't believe what a bargain this bathroom has been, it's lovely. I'm going to switch the telly off and just watch the bath instead! Thanks."

Ian - Burnley "Great service delivered on time great communication from driver and great service from yourselves excellent quality shower bath no problems at all would defiantly recommend 10/10!!!"

Plus many of the others.

What is the Solid Surface material used on the Washstands, made from?

The marble effect solid surface material is made from a resin based solid surface material that is sprayed with a gel coat to give it the glossy finish. The tap and basin waste holes are pre drilled.
